does it seem like i'm looking for a new roommate every few months?
Feb. 4th, 2009 | 08:38 am
Well, that's basically the case. But things are stabilizing -- really! We've got a good group of people right now and we're hoping the new person will be the last new roommate for a while. You've all seen the ad before, I think, but here it is again. Please help us spread the word.
Room available for a nice queer in the Mission
Our roommate is moving to Austin, Texas to live the dream. That leaves the three of us looking for a new fabulous queer to take her place.
The bedroom for rent is 11X11 with two windows, a nice-sized closet and high ceilings.
The apartment is large and features hardwood floors, Victorian details, tons of light. There's a comfortable living room, a big kitchen with a dishwasher, a (very) small outdoor area with room for plants. There's even a Washer/Dryer!
We have two beautiful cats. Unfortunately our landlord won't let us have any more, so you should love cats, but not have any of your own.
The house is on a block that has easy access to everything along 24th street. We're near several bus lines, including the 9, 33, 48, 19, 27, 12 and 67, we're a 15-minute walk from Bart.
The room is available March 1. Rent is $675.

space to park my bmw? wtf?!

Do people even read our ad before they reply? Jeez. Did you know open-minded is the new word for "homophobic"?
My name is Ann and I saw your ad on craigslist for a roomate. I am 26, female, and am an attorney (I have a juris doctorate and BA). I am a young professional, outgoing, open minded, responsible, really nice, pretty mellow, down to earth and enjoy traveling, volleyball, eating out, snowboarding, community service, and can cook (although I have been too busy lately for that). I am drug free, do not smoke, and drama free with no pets. I have a ski lease this winter in Tahoe so will probably be up there alot. I was born in Michigan, but grew up in the bay area and lived in Southern California for the last 7 years. I currently live in the outter mission but want to move to Noe Valley (preferably somewhere close to BART where I can take muni or walk to BART since I work in Oakland). I'm looking for a nice place that is drama free with parking (either garage or street since I just purchased a new BMW).
Yikes. Can you help us? Do you know anyone? Here's our craigslist ad:
------
We are 3 fabulous queer dykes in our late-20s to mid-30s looking for
another queer/genderqueer/trans person for our flat in the mission
district.
We are 1/3 cheesemonger, 1/3 public school teacher, and 1/3 computer
programmer. We like each other and we want our next roommate to be
someone we like (and who likes us too). Of course, we do have lives
outside of the apartment and hope you do too.
We are looking for someone who is responsible and employed but also
fun-loving (and did we mention queer?). You don't have to have
everything figured out, but you should have something that you are
excited about. You should be respectful and reasonably quiet (complete
silence not necessary). We like to hang out and laugh, but this isn't
a party house (smoke-free). You are neat but not a neat freak, and are
willing to do chores on a rotating schedule. We are interested in
creating a more communal household, sharing some food and meals
(CSA?); it would be great if you were into that too.
The room available is large (12 x 15) and has two windows and a
nice-sized closet. There's also a comfortable living room, a kitchen
(primarily vegetarian) with a dishwasher, a (very) small outdoor area
with room for plants, and some storage. The apartment has a
washer/dryer and room for you to store your bike.
We have two beautiful cats. Unfortunately our landlord won't let us
have any more, so you should love cats, but not have any of your own.
The room is available Dec. 1. Rent is $800. Contact 2502house at gmail dot com

The person who's been a thorn in our collective side is finally moving into her own place, as she should have done long, long ago.

We were all ready to take off, then they had to turn the plane around to fix some pressure something. Now we are still on the plane but back at the gate. Ugh.

I got rid of the bed this morning. I gave it to a random dude who'd recently moved to the city. He's a friend of someone I went to grad school with. After asking all the people I knew if they wanted it, I offered it up on my grad school alumni listserv. It's a big relief to have that outta my way.
I sealed up 7 boxes for Amtrak. I was hoping to go tomorrow but I don't think I'll be ready. I have a few more boxes to go. After that, the headache involves where to dump all the crap I'm not taking.

More sorting today. 4 bags of garbage now gone. Many many things to donate. I want to sell some books, but I'm not sure if the schelp to the strand is worth it. Brooklyn used bookstores are all closed down damnit.

Ah, New York, city of disposable bags and children soothed with cheese puffs. City of bad coffee and gratuitous quotation marks.
I walked past my old apartment and I didn't cry. But I wanted to.

It is a nice day out. I am sitting in the weird little part-airshaft, part-deck in my apartment. There is a little bit of breeze and a tiny bit of sun. It is really warm in San Francisco this weekend. It's too hot for the locals, I think, but just right for me. It's like those rare late spring days in New York right before the humidity gets stifling.
I'm trying to make use of the good things about this apartment before I leave it for good at the end of May. I will have been here almost a year, which is hard to believe. I like the apartment and I like the neighborhood, but I've let go of a lot of the sadness I had about leaving. It will be nice not to feel anxious about running into Bike Femme or one of her fellow cult members every time I leave the house. It will be nice not to have to go out of my way to avoid her block. And I'm disheartened by the young gentrifier vibe going on here. All these wealthy 25-year-olds with thousand dollar bicycles and little storefronts for skateboards and t-shirts. I don't kid myself that I'm going to escape gentrification; after all, in the zoomed out view, I'm one of them. I think it can be less ridiculous than the Mission, though. This place gives Williamsburg a run for its money.
But speaking of moving, I'm starting to look for real. Just starting. But I think I'm going to look at a place today. I'm not sure what to do about my sad credit and sketchy job sitch, but I'm just going to start trying. I'm going to practice going into housing situations as if I'm a legit human being and not desperate.
In other news, I've been thinking about writing recently. Pretty frequently. But not doing anything about it.
